Older Homes, Bigger Trees, Busy Families
Tree Service in Tice usually involves trees that have been growing since the neighborhood's first boom. Tice had 1,133 residents in 1950, 4,377 by 1960 and 7,254 by 1970, according to census counts, so many of its houses and the trees around them date to the 1950s and 1960s. State Road 80, Palm Beach Boulevard, is the main road, running about 4 miles southwest to downtown Fort Myers and 1 mile northeast to I-75, and the Caloosahatchee forms the northern edge. Fort Myers Tree Service Pros prunes and removes trees across the neighborhood, on lots where a single big oak can shade three houses.
Tice is one of the densest places we work, with more than 4,000 people per square mile in 2020, and one of the youngest. The median age was 31.2, and nearly a third of residents were under 18. Small yards full of kids, bikes and parked cars change how a job runs. We set a clear drop zone, keep it taped off while cutting, and finish with the yard raked and blown so it's usable the same evening.
When the tree is older than the house
A tree that has been in the yard for sixty years has usually been through several owners, a few hurricanes and at least one bad pruning job. Common problems we find in Tice:
- Limbs that were topped years ago and regrew as clusters of weakly attached sprouts
- Decay where large limbs were removed or broke off
- Roots cut during driveway, plumbing or sidewalk work
- Branches resting on roofs or grown around the service drop
- Palms planted next to the house that now reach the eaves
None of these automatically means the tree has to come out. Many can be corrected with careful pruning following ANSI A300 standards. Some can't, and when a tree is a real danger to the house, we say so directly.
Doing it in stages
Tree work doesn't have to happen all at once. If you have several trees that need attention, we can rank them in the estimate: what should be done now for safety, what should be done before hurricane season, and what can wait a year or two. You choose what to schedule, and each part is priced separately in writing.
Close to the river
The Caloosahatchee runs along Tice's northern edge. Lots near the water deal with wetter soil in summer and, in big storms, surge pushed up the river. In Hurricane Ian, the National Hurricane Center estimated 5 to 8 feet of inundation up the river in Fort Myers. Trees that sat in brackish water can decline slowly, so if a tree near the river has thinned over the past couple of years, it's worth a look.
Rules
Tice is unincorporated Lee County. The county's vegetation guide says removing five or fewer trees a year from a single-family lot with an existing home doesn't require a county permit.

Tice Questions
Can I spread tree work out over time to fit my budget?
Yes. We rank the work in the estimate by urgency and price each tree separately, so you can do the safety work now and the rest later.
My oak was topped years ago and now has lots of thin branches. Can it be fixed?
Often it can be improved. Over a few visits we select the strongest sprouts to become new limbs and remove the weak ones. It takes time, but it's usually cheaper than removal and replacement.
A tree is growing around the wire to my house. Who handles it?
Call your electric utility about the line first. Once it's safe, we can prune or remove the tree around it.
Do you grind stumps in small front yards?
Yes. Compact stump grinders fit through narrow side yards, and we cover nearby windows and cars when needed. We check for buried lines before we start.
Is it worth keeping a big old tree that shades my whole yard?
Often, yes. Shade cools the house, and a sound, well-pruned mature tree adds value. We check the trunk, root flare and major limbs; if the structure is good, a cleanup prune is usually a better investment than removal.
