Tree Care for the Village of Estero
Tree Service in Estero runs through two sets of rules more often than anywhere else we work: the Village's own vegetation permits and the standards of the homeowners association. Estero became a village on December 31, 2014, and has about 35 gated communities and 11 golf courses inside its borders. Fort Myers Tree Service Pros prunes, removes and replaces trees for owners in those communities and in the older neighborhoods along the Estero River, and we set up the paperwork side of the job before the saws come out.
Village permits, in plain terms. Estero's vegetation removal application covers several types of requests: removing single or multiple trees, removing invasive exotics, indigenous maintenance and lot clearing. For tree removal the application asks for the species, quantity and location of each tree, plus a photo of each one. The fee listed on the form is $30 plus $1 for each additional tree, and it doubles if the work was done before the permit. When a replacement tree is required, the village asks for a photo of the new tree by email and a final inspection call to 239-221-5036. We can take the photos and fill in the species and locations for you.
HOA approval comes first. In most gated communities the association has its own landscape rules, and many require architectural review approval before a tree is removed or a palm is replaced with a different species. Get that approval in writing before we schedule. If the HOA asks for a replacement tree from a list, tell us when you request the estimate so we can price the removal and planting together.
The river and the bay. The spring-fed Estero River runs to Estero Bay, Florida's first aquatic preserve, and until the 1970s most settlement here was close to the river. Homes along that corridor tend to have older live oaks, cabbage palms and the occasional mangrove fringe. In Hurricane Ian, the National Hurricane Center estimated surge inundation of 8 to 12 feet across Estero, Bonita Beach and Bonita Springs. Trees that sat in salt water need a careful look; a stressed oak can hang on for a season and then decline, and a palm with a dead bud should not be left standing.
An older population with high standards. Census figures put 51.9% of Estero residents at 65 or older, and the owner-occupied rate at 86.0%. Many owners are seasonal. We can schedule work while you are up north, coordinate gate access with the community, and send photos when the job is done.
What we do most in Estero:
- Trimming royal, coconut, date and Christmas palms to HOA appearance standards
- Crown thinning and clearance pruning on live oaks over lanais and driveways
- Removing declining or storm-damaged trees, with village permits where required
- Stump grinding and haul-away so a replacement tree can go in the same spot
- Pre-season checks of large trees next to the house

Estero Questions
Do I need a village permit to remove a tree in Estero?
Many removals go through Estero's vegetation removal application, which asks for photos, species and locations. Trees documented as an unacceptable risk by an ISA certified arborist or Florida licensed landscape architect on a single-family lot fall under the state exemption in Florida Statute 163.045. Call the village at 239-221-5036 if you're unsure.
My HOA says I have to replace a palm I removed. Can you do both?
Yes. Tell us the species and size the association requires, and we'll quote the removal, stump grinding and replacement together so the new tree goes into clean soil.
Can you do the work while I'm away for the summer?
Yes. We arrange gate access with your community, do the work, and email photos when it's done. The written estimate is approved before anything is scheduled.
