Old Florida Along the River
Tree Service in Alva means working in one of the oldest settled corners of Lee County. The Alva Library dates to 1909 and was the first library in what is now Lee County; a chapel from 1901 is still standing as well, and both are open to the public. The Caloosahatchee River flows east to west right through the center of the community, and State Road 80 connects it to LaBelle, 12 miles east, and central Fort Myers, 18 miles west. Fort Myers Tree Service Pros makes the drive out regularly for riverbank oaks, rural lots and homes tucked under big old trees.
River lots. Properties along the Caloosahatchee often have the largest trees in Alva, and they are the trickiest to work on. Banks can be soft, trees lean toward the light over the water, and a limb that drops into the river is hard to retrieve. We rig limbs and lower them back toward land rather than letting them fall. If a tree is undermining the bank or leaning hard toward the water, we'll discuss whether reducing its weight could buy it time or whether it should come down on your terms instead of the river's.
Rural parcels. Alva is spread out: 2,725 people over about 17.45 square miles of land, roughly 156 per square mile. Many properties are a few acres or more. On those, tree work often includes clearing along fences and driveways, removing dead pines, raising oak limbs for trucks and tractors, and grinding stumps in lawn areas. Lee County's vegetation guide says clearing single-family residential property of 5 acres or more needs a county permit, and agricultural clearing goes through a Notice of Clearing. Removing five or fewer trees a year from a lot with an existing home is exempt.
Old trees deserve a careful look. In the UF/IFAS study of trees after Florida hurricanes, live oaks survived Hurricane Charley at a 78% rate and cabbage palms at 92%, while laurel oaks and slash pines fell into a lower wind-resistance group. On Alva properties with old live oaks, pruning to remove dead wood and reduce over-long limbs usually makes more sense than removal. Decay, cavities and cracks change that calculation, so we look closely before we recommend anything.
Getting there. Because Alva is a drive from most of our work, we try to group visits. If you have several trees to deal with, or neighbors who need work too, mention it when you call. Combining jobs on the same trip can lower the cost for everyone.

Alva Questions
Do you travel out to Alva?
Yes. Alva is part of our regular service area. We try to group Alva jobs on the same day, so let us know if neighbors need work too.
My oak leans toward the river. Should it be removed?
Not always. A lean that has been there for decades is usually less worrying than a new one. We check the root zone and bank, and sometimes reducing the tree's weight on the river side is enough.
Can you clear several acres for a new homesite?
We can handle selective clearing and tree removal for a homesite. Clearing single-family property of five acres or more needs a Lee County permit, so check that first; we'll help you plan the work around it.
Is it safe to burn the brush from my tree work?
Open burning in Florida is regulated by the Florida Forest Service and local rules, and conditions change with drought. On our jobs we chip the brush or haul it away, so there's nothing left to burn.
